What you have is an amp with amazing power, killer tone and a lot of mojo. You've also got two Weber Vintage Series 50-watt speakers - one 10\" and one 12\" and they make for an outstanding pair. He took the chassis from a 1969 Bandmaster Reverb, took it apart, cleaned it, and rebuilt into an AB763 Vibroverb (with a reproduction faceplate). Of course Gehring sweetened every wire and part along the way. The output transformer was replaced with a beefier Hammond unit, the electrolytic capacitors were all replaced; the filter caps were replaced with Sprague Atoms; and the parts boards were completely removed, depopulated, cleaned, and reloaded with new parts.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHe also removed the Silverface-era PVC wiring and rewired this beauty with new vintage-style cloth insulated wire. \u003c\/span\u003eThe coupling caps used are a mix of Mallory 150m type and new, old stock Black Beauties. One-ohm bias current-sensing resistors were added to the power tube cathode connections to make checking the idling current easier to do too.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you're a vintage tone fan looking for something really reliable that you can gig with for decades to come, this \u003cstrong\u003eGehring Fender Vibroverb Conversion Amp\u003c\/strong\u003e is the one for you. The 1\/2\" Birch void-free plywood cabinet is expertly covered in black Taurus Tolex and is accentuated by a red alligator-patterned cowhide leather detail panel. The valence panel is figured Maple, stained black, with brass trim - all together, this is an astounding amp, both visually and sonically. Like the Gehring Darkstar combo, it doesn't use negative feedback on the output stage, so going from a clean tone to some breakup is gradual, allowing for more control from the guitar volume and pick attack, rather than just the amp itself.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA Bright switch, Volume, Treble, Mids, Bass, and Master Volume controls are on the front panel. On its back panel are a Bias selector switch, a 4\/8 ohm impedance selector, and a switch to defeat cathode bypass capacitor on the output stage (when cathode bias is selected).
