Here with an Alder body, tortoiseshell pickguard and three-color Sunburst finish, this is the classic Precision Bass look and feel. The \"L\" serial number and neck stamp date this guitar to July of '65, right in the middle of what is thought of as the transitional-era of the CBS acquisition of Fender. Fittingly the bass sports a lot of the Pre-CBS craftsmanship and vintage appointments including a nitrocellulose 3-tone burst finish. The original frets are present and while low, the bass plays great thanks to a Mass Street setup.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHere in Very Good condition, especially so considering its age, it features some beautiful vintage checking in the nitro finish, along with a buckle rash on the back and a few dents around the body. There is a a corner of the pickguard missing on the treble horn. The foam on the bridge ashtray has shrunk and hardened over the years, making it non-functional as a mute, it is included it in the case. All original with untouched pickups, solder joints, everything. A piece of music history with a legendary tone to boot. The original pickguard has been lost to time, possibly corroded as the original pickguard mounting hardware is included in corroded condition as well. As for wear, a few marks here and there are present but it's been kept with very good care. The frets are original, along with the inlays with plenty of height in the rosewood fingerboard for a refret, if the next owner so chooses.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eThe original g\u003cspan\u003erey-bobbin \u003c\/span\u003epickups sound incredible and deliver that mid-forward '60s Strat tone, without being overly bright or harsh. The pickups and electronics both date to 1965 and are untouched, with the original solder joints intact. The original tuners and saddles are present, along with the original 3-ply white pickguard, which was a new addition in later '65. The pickup covers, knobs and switch-tip are all present and original, and the guitar retains it's original 3-way switch and wiring. The finish checking is absolutely gorgeous with a few knicks and knocks around the edges, along with a couple of spots so minor they don't photograph well, where the finish has reacted with something. When viewed under a black light there is evidence of a factory finish touch up on the inside treble horn. After careful examination and finish measurements by our team we feel this touch up was done at the factory, at the time of production and the finish is all original.  \u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eThe pickguard, pickup and switch screws are all original. The six backplate screws all match in size, finish, thread count and patina however, they are a shape that we have not previously seen on a '65 backplate. They may be original, as Fender was often making use of whichever parts were available at the time and these screws were often some of the last parts installed on the body during assembly. Both pickup leads had previously been shortened, with the neck being later lengthened.
