The right hand attack is very even and responsive which only adds to its clear and balanced tone whether flatpicking, strumming or fingerpicking. The bridge is an exact replacement of the original. There is an old hairline crack between the tuner screws that in no way could be considered a headstock crack. The Sitka Spruce top is a very dark and tight grained, with one very minor (and typical) pickguard shrinkage crack under the high E string. There are minor nicks, scratches and weather checks, to be expected with something of this age. The bridge is a nicely made, slightly oversized replacement with a drop in saddle, and the two visible pearl dots are tiny non-original bolts (see bridge photo). The installation was very neat and clean, and did not hit the X braces.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe neck angle is very good here and the frets are freshly dressed. There is a name ink-stamped on the back of the peg head, most likely a previous owner. Most importantly, this D-28 has an exceptionally good sound and matching playability. Each piece hand-filed, mitered, and fitted into the top, side, back and rosette bindings\u003cspan\u003e—\u003c\/span\u003eas well as the hexagon fingerboard inlays and traditional C.F. Marin headstock lettering. Stellar looks aside, this one projects with the best of them, due in part to its hand-scalloped top bracing which maximizes soundboard vibrations. This D-35 is in Very Good + to Excellent - condition as there is some playwear, most noticeably a ding on the lower bout of the top. It was touched up in a less than professional manner, but is structurally fine. There is some pick wear near the soundhole and some bucklerash on the back as well. The size of this makes it one you won't put down for a second—really great for fingerstyle, but strummers will find this one to be quite addictive, as well, with plenty of power. This is in Very Good condition and the top has some nicks and small dings (see photo for most significant one near lower treble bout)—it has been played, but never abused. The frets are in fantastic shape too. Very nice opportunity to save about a grand over a brand new Martin and you won't mind playing this one out. It shows a lot of honest play wear (see photos), but the top remains crack free. The back has two small, tight cracks in the lower bout. There is a long repaired crack on treble side. The crack is not that visible, but the finish was altered and is lighter. It is by far the worst area as to the finish condition on the guitar, but luckily on the treble side. There are no structural issues with this crack. The fingerboard and bridge had been thinned down when we received the guitar and required replacing. This guitar has a narrow neck, or late '39. Jim elected to replace the board and flared it out a bit, and was able to end up with a nut width of nearly 1 3\/4\". Additionally, he made a new bridge and moved the pin spacing from 2 1\/8\" out to 2 1\/4\".\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe original bridge plate was in very good condition and the ovaling of the holes is not noticeable. Jim has done this repair on many 1939 to 1944 guitars resulting in great playability. This guitar has been been played by many top pro players, and beyond liking the sound, they all loved the playability. The modification is not visually noticeable, but very much appreciated by the players. Overall this guitar is in Very Good condition.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe bridge is an exact size replacement, made in our luthier shop, with a bone saddle of correct height. The neck has been reset and new frets were installed while the nut is original ivory. The 1\/4 inch jack installed years ago, was removed from the waist area of the treble side and cleanly plugged with Brazilian Rosewood. The plug matches nicely and is hard to see in the photos. The back and sides are also crack free and gorgeous.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe finish is worn on the back of the neck and the back of the guitar has normal nicks, scratches and an area of buckle wear you'd expect from something of this age. This is a one-owner guitar that was played, but never abused. The tone is big and full, as you would expect from such a fine example that has been played. The inside of the guitar is clean and nice as well. The original bridge plate has two tiny filled holes that correspond to the bolts that were added to the original bridge. The original bridge was also cracked between the pins and was not a candidate for restoration, but it made a perfect model for the correct new bridge. The tuners are original and also in very good condition. This \u003cstrong\u003e1953 Martin D-28 \u003c\/strong\u003ecomes with a hard case, from a few years later (mid 50s) and is in good condition.
